Far be it from me to tell him what to do, God forbid, but don’t you think this whole Roy Keane thing has gone on long enough? He either wants the job or not and if he doesn’t please tell poor old Niall Quinn because the guy has put his neck on the line with this one.

Mind you, it is perhaps worth remembering - although I have to admit I never saw it - that, according to informed sources at Sky Sports, when Quinn was asked whether his former Republic of Ireland teammate would make a good manager he said ‘No’

For the record, I think he will make a good manager. Lest we forget this is a player who was not only one of the best the Premiership has ever seen, but also one who was guided by two of the best managers of the last 50 years, Brian Clough and Sir Alex Ferguson.

Okay, so the guy has a short fuse, - well, not so much short as tiny - but surely he cannot fail to have picked up a few tricks of the trade from his former mentors.

One thing is for sure, you can the bet the North-East press pack will be taking bets on who is the first among us to get the hair dryer treatement when he doesn't like one our match reports.
