They Didn't Panic

Posted by Luke on August 31, 2006 11:01 PM |

I suppose Newcastle can at least say they didn't panic, they just didn't get anyone. Problem is, I'm not sure which is worse. Oh, sorry, they got Antoine Sibierski, but he was hardly the big name fans wanted, or the defender Glenn Roeder clearly needed.

But I'm not going to slag the Frenchman off here. He hasn't even kicked a ball for the club and he deserves as much support as any other United player. It isn't his fault he's not a defender or a proven Premiership goalscorer, so go Sibi go. Remember Owen Hargreaves?

As for Sunderland, well if we needed any evidence of Roy Keane's pulling power as a manager, how does five pretty decent looking signings in a day sound?

The Irishman will be delighted, although if he rang you up and asked if you wanted to come, would you say no?

"It's Roy Keane here. You're coming to play for Sunderland or I'll break your legs."

"Erm, okay, see you at the Stadium of Light in a couple of hours."

Mind you, I'd like to be a fly on the wall the first time Keano receives reports of Dwight Yorke out on the Quayside! The playboy prince and the new tyrant of Wearside, fantastic!

Luke,
It is 11.02pm. I am at work on my computer still waiting for the BIG THREE signings Shepherd and Roeder promised. Where are they? How is this small squad going to survive in four competitions. How the hell has this situation been allowed to happen? Mismanagement at the top.
They have hung Roeder out to dry. Sunderland, Roy Keane, Niall Quinn and their six new signings have put us to shame, as have Boro with Woodgate coming in.
I am sick of this club and those who run it.

So what happened to Glenn Roeder's declaration that he needed six new signings this summer?
By my reckoning he got four, one of who is a untried 19-year-old and the other who couldn't get in in Manchester City first team. The squad is weaker than it was when he took over

Very, very depressed

What's going on?
I think it's about time our obese, follically challenged chairman departed stage left. He insists he's a Newcastle fan and has the clubs best interest at heart. Well, if thats the case he should take his share of the pot and step down. Its obvious that he's taken us as far as he can. He almost managed to sell Milner which suggests that he was thinking with his bank balance again.
Please Mr. Shepherd, take a running jump and let someone with half a clue have a go.
You will be welcome for tea and scones at the manor any time to explain yourself.......
P.S. Does anyone else think that the transfer window could be classed as an obstruction of trade?

Hi Luke! Love your blog - love all your work. Unlike my club Watford, who I'm very optimistic about, I have to say I have concerns about Newcastle. Their transfer policy is like a candle in the wind. Didn't Antoine Sibierski used to present Eurotrash? And I can't believe you still haven't followed my example and got a head weave.

I agree with Little Lord Font, the transfer window is a restraint on trade, but that doesn't excuse the incompetency that has taken place at St James's Park.

Freddie and Glenn should hang their heads in shame because they have made a major, major, major cock up. Why on earth did we not sign Woodgate and Campbell, why did we turn our noses up at Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink?

A dark day in the history of Newcastle United.

You might not be slagging Sibi what's his name off yet, but the fact Man City fans are laughing at us for signing it says it all really.

A 32-year-old utitlity player who couldn't get a game for a team which finished below us in the league
