Well Done Jamie Noon

Posted by Luke on November 7, 2006 11:35 AM |

A lot has been said and written about England's record home defeat to New Zealand at the weekend, but precious little has been said about the performance of Newcastle Falcon centre Jamie Noon.

This time last year Noon was being ridiculed by some experts who questioned his right to a place in the side probably because they met the cousin of another centre playing for a southern club at an old school friend's wedding!

Those experts should be wiping the egg off their face this week after the former target of their mockery proved to be one of the only players who could live with the mighty All Blacks on Sunday.

The former Northumbria University student scored one try and had a perfectly good one ruled out by a blundering French referee who failed to give a try even though the Kiwis were so sure it was a try that they had lined up to prepare for the conversion (which would probably have been missed by Charlie Hodgson.)

Given Noon's excellent form for the Falcons this season he should be a certainty to play in next summer's World Cup and could well be joined in the backs by club mates Toby Flood and Matthew Tait.

Of course, that might not be such a blessing as the reigning World champions look as though they have about as much chance of winning the World Cup as I have of being called up to bolster the scrum against Argentina next weekend.

As I say Luke, this poncey rugby is good to watch when you're there but Rugby League's the way forward.

When the League boys are washed up from Super League, they simply sign a nice lucrative contract to play Union and knock all the pansies out the way.... And League boys don't get such deformed looking ears!!

I don't think Rugby has many cliches but Soccer does, (thats football to you and
me'
On the subject of irritating repetitive cliché’s from NUFC sources, may I offer you the following contributions?

Peter Beardsley ‘special’ everything and every bloody one is ’special’ for some damn reason.

Alan Shearer ‘to be honest’, and ‘We’ll just have to pick ourselves up and get on with it’, which worryingly implies that sometimes he is not honest, and is complacent in defeat.

Glenn Roeder has only been in the job five minutes and he has made it to the charts with ‘I’m to blame’, ‘the buck stops here’, and ‘I haven’t been well you know’.

Freddy Shepherd with ‘This is a big club’, ‘Rolls Royce Salaries’, ‘Glenn has my full support’, Oh dear!

This one isn’t a cliché but I thought I would stick it in anyway, Shepherd, ‘Rest assured, we are working ceaselessly towards getting our new manager in place, but only when the time is right will we name the man to lead the team in the immediate future. One thing is for certain: we have a long list of candidates of the highest calibre to select from.’

Blacbuddha ‘ Kev’.

Jamie Noon probably has some good quotes but I don't know any.
