I'm On a Scouting Mission To Serbia

By Luke Edwards on Jul 10, 07 03:48 PM

That's it, I've had enough, the lack of transfer activity at Newcastle and Sunderland, the constant speculation about targets and then the deafening silence from the clubs which follows it, has started to do my head in.

So guys and girls, I’m packing my bags and heading off on another holiday. Some of you will be relieved, some of you might be distraught, but I’m not hanging around any longer!

This time - if you’re in the least bit interested - I’m heading to Serbia for the Exit Festival, five days camping by the River Danube and hopefully - after the mud and rain at Glastonbury - lots of sunshine.

However, if you have seen the film Hostel - okay so that was Slovakia but you get my drift - and have a vague knowledge of recent European history you might understand why I’m just a little apprehensive!

Only messing, it’ll be fine. As if I’m going to be kidnapped by a former paramilitary group and tortured by a group of evil corporate clients looking for sick kicks at my physical expense. You never know, I might even bump into Sam Allardyce as he scours every corner of the footballing world looking for new defenders.

Back next week so, if you have anything you want to get off your chest, just leave a comment here and I’ll put them all up when I get back from my jaunt.

You being kidnapped for ransom?... We can dream!!

Hope they don't ask us for money because the reply will have to be "I haven't brought any!"
Have a lovely time

I cannot believe you actually got paid to write this, if this is what the paper serves up then, its better it stays as trees

Note From Luke
Do you mean this entry in particular or the whole blog Ceri? If it's this entry, I've got to let people know I'm on holiday otherwise they might wonder why their comment aren't going up on line.

Finally Ceri, I'd just like to point out that no trees are harmed in the production of this blog. It only goes on the web, not in the paper, so no harm done is there you little eco warrior you!

I lived in Belgrade for several months just over a year ago and after watching Partizan, Red Star and the national team play on several occasions I can tell you that there is not a lot out there.MOst of Serbia's best are already playing abroad. Nikola Vidic, a Niall Quinn type figure, was still playong for Red Star Belgrade and I did see him score a corker against AS Roma but more often than not he proved to be simply a nuisance. He might be a solution for some premiership clubs but I don't see him being a 20 goal a season player.
Like the rest of the Balkans the best have a already gone. Check out Martin Petrov (Bulgarian) at Athletico Madrid.
Enjoy your shopping,
Ian

Oh no, this must mean your back, have a good time?

Did you get shot at?

The Hartlepool goal on Tuesday night certainly did.

Times are-a-changing.

So spot any defensive talent? Paul.

Note From Luke
I had a great time Paul, thanks for asking. I didn't get shot at either and the Serbians were fantastic, really friendly.

I did see plenty of talent, but none of them appeared to be footballers!

Keep up to date
