Another Live Web Chat 12pm Tuesday

By Luke Edwards on Oct 20, 08 02:21 PM

Following swiftly on from a successful live web chat debut a fortnight ago I will once again be answering your questions regarding all things Newcastle United after the Manchester City game.

It will basically follow the same format as last time and I'll do my best to answer every single question, no matter how hard or controversial you make them

The broad idea is to do one of these once a week after Newcastle have played so if you have any points you'd like to make about the City game and want to participate in the debate with your fellow supporters just log on to the Journal Live website at midday and follow the links.

What better way to spend your Tuesday lunch break? Alright, so you can probably think of several, but it's good fun, a bit like a live message board!

Hi Luke, two quick points.

One - Ameobi played her heart out, was the best player on the park, and we keep trying to sell him onto others. He cost us nothing, and like Milner has never wanted to leave, so please keep him at the club.
The new Irishman seems to have put some fire in the players bellies, and would seem to be the right man for the job - so take note Mike Ashley.
Two - is 12pm lunchtime or night-time.

Good luck with your live broadcast.

Hmmm - seems I`ve started something here Luke.

U.S. Government Printing Office Style Manual[10] recommends the opposite: "12 p.m." for midnight and "12 a.m." (formerly "12 m.") for noon.

Useful quote for those who think I`m blonde.

People who grew up with the 24-hour clock see the 12-hour notation as a less practical and outdated convention, especially in the context of written communication, computers and digital clocks.
People who grew up with the 12-hour clock often have problems indicating midnight and noon.
Those who grew up with the 24-hour clock are confused when they come across situations very common in Internet forums and email, in which a message indicated as posted at "12:46 am" appears before a message marked "11:05 am". (These arguments may be compared to the discussion on metrication.)

The disadvantages commonly voiced in comparing the 12-hour notation to the 24-hour clock are:

confusion about the correct notation for noon and midnight
confusion about the difference between midnight at the start and end of a given date
The rollover from 12 to 1 happens an hour later than the change between a.m. and p.m.
The lexicographical order does not match the chronological order.
It is more complicated to implement in software and digital electronics.
Typographically, the a.m. and p.m. terms require more space. So Luke, see what happens when you attend University mate.

Zulu - you certainly have started something!

I am not sure I would trust the US government explanation... I suppose that technically 12 noon is neither am or pm, but 1 second past 12 noon is surely pm, which is why the British explanation makes a lot more sense to me. :)

Thanks for the webchat Luke!

Luke, I have 4 questions for you:

1. How high on the luck scale do you rate the Dunne goal last night?

2. What do you think has happened to Sparky -- it must have been just about the least motivated one of his teams have ever been?

3. Do you take any of the stuff about there being any buyers for NUFC, from Africa or elsewhere, seriously or is it somebody from Sunderland taking the *****?

4. What will people think about BJ is Toon get thumped on Saturday?

Note From Luke
I take it you think Newcastle will get thumped on Saturday then! As for Dunne, there was a massive slice of good fortune in both Newcastle's goal against Man City, but they deserved that after the Habib Beye sending off and penalty. As for the takeover, I'm relatively calm about the fact it has gone quiet. Proper business people do not do their negotiating in the media. I'll be perfectly happy if the new owners come out of the blue completely. Well, perhaps if I get wind of it a 24 hours before everyone else, that would be even better!
