Alan Shearer Is Newcastle United Manager
Unbelievable, remarkable, incredible, this is truly stunning, an absolutely sensational turn of events. I'm so excited I feel a little sick. Alan Shearer is Newcastle United's new manager.
Mike Ashley pulled off one amazing coup when he managed to bring Kevin Keegan back as manager, but to bring Shearer back tops it all. It is - and I kid you not - the most jubilant managerial appointment in the world...ever!
I am lost for words...... Except of course I can't be, it's just sometimes words cannot do events justice. I'm sure you are as shell shocked as me, but for once with Newcastle United, it's with joy rather than dread.
Of course, Newcastle still have a relegation battle to worry about, but if Shearer can't guide the club to safety then who on this planet can?
It doesn't even matter about his lack of experience, man management skills or anything else. This is Alan Shearer we are talking about, the one man who could instantly unite a football club with its supporters once again. Ashley may not be completely forgiven just yet but Shearer offers redemption!
Say what you like about Mike - he should have done this four games ago if we are being critical - but you have to take your hat off to him with this one. To get Shearer to answer his SOS call is the best business decision he has ever made.
Relegation would have cost him a fortune and dragged the club to the brink of disaster. Shearer is perhaps, not only the one man who can save them this season, but take the club back to the heights it should enjoy.
I'm would absolutely love to know what you think of it all. Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice.... sorry but I've had a couple of glasses of wine and there are several more waiting for me.

Mike Ashley didn't do this for Newcastle United.
He did this to get fans off his back and to stop his investment going down the pan with Middlesbrough-like attendances at Saint James' Park next season because of disillusioned fans giving up. Mike Ashley still thinks Newcastle fans are stupid btw.
I'm Happy about Shearers appointment, it will give everyone in Newcastle a positive buzz. SJP will no doubt be filled to the rafters for the rest of our home games.
The only way to have success in any aspect of life is to be POSITIVE in thoughts and actions. With Shearer's appointment, all of SJP and the city of Newcastle will be positive, and believe me it will have a positive effect on the teams performances.
I'm now expecting a win against Chelsea. With 50,000 people with a positive buzz and cheering. It's a univeral law, positivity begets positivity and it works the same for negativity.
Well what can you say? I hope to god it's not an april fools joke! If it is true it is unbelievable and absolutely needed at the moment! We are suffering and 8 games gives us long enough to save ourselves and it's also short enough for the buzz to continue from game to game! Hopefully we will survive and then we can go from there! I'm pleased you are so excited about it Luke! I'm booking Chelsea tickets as i type!
Is this an April Fool's joke or has Christmas come early!
horay!!!
we're going to win the league!!!!
Luke, I could not be more delighted. I have never been more depressed as a Newcastle fan, than these last few weeks. The return of Shearer has had me literally jumping for joy this morning. I'm still waiting for the official announcement on nufc.com and pray this is not a April Fools, but optimism is back. I fancy a victory against Chelsea and a stable push toward safety. Shearer is no idiot, this is a no lose situation, and whatever happens he will always be god in my eyes. I just hope we can create a special atmosphere at St James' these next few games and the players give the 110% that Taylor, Butt and Bassong did against Arsenal. There's a decent squad there capable of winning against Stoke and Chelsea and even Spurs. Good luck Big Al, we're all behind you!
Am I just being cynical in thinking that this is just another ploy to improve attendances and deflect attention from the real problems within the club?
Its just great to hear newcastle united football club have appointed a manager. That in its self is brilliant news. I agree it should of been done when JFK took ill. its not like we haven't been here before we know what its like without a manager. the players and supporters need inspiration and Alan Shearer can give us that.. simple as that. I could add critisim or say such and such would be a better choise but this is a time to get behind NUFC..
I'm highly delighted at this news,as i pointed out earlier on these blogs, what happened to it.
Luke
I had just about given up on anything positive coming out of NUFC, but this brings a little life and a spark of excitement, at least for now. If Ashley truly backs Shearer, gets help for him on the managerial side, at least temporarily, then Alan possible could bring some stability to the club. Whether he can keep them "up" is another question, but it is hope, isn't it? Cheers, mate.
Is it true !! Not that Alan is back, but that the Cockney Wise(man) has left the building ?
If you like it so much Luke clearly you should be a Newcastle supporter! This is just everyday stuff for us - joy one minute, utter despair the next. One thing you can say is it`s never boring.
Nah, I'll stick with the not-so-mighty Os thanks, couldn't cope with all the excitement!
I'd say that experience, man management skills and everything else will definitely be a factor. He'll get lift from his reputation but it won't count for much if he cannot deliver. It is still a very, very difficult job even for one who will obviously receive an abundance of goodwill.
when the players here the reception the toon army give Alan Shearer they will play their hearts out. if they don't drop them off at that fancy canopied bus station where the Nat Express pulls up.? i bet players like S Taylor are over the moon.. we've badly missed Shearer at the club since he hung up his boots. I don't think we've ever really got over it!? maybe for a hand full of games under KK but that was it.. I wonder if he goes for the 3 up front? timing wise there is a lot of talk about Steve Bruce coming in, so maybe AS thought this might be his last chance for a while? -well this side of dinner time anyway..
This can only be a good thing for the region as a whole! Let me be the first (and probably the only) Mackem to wish Alan Shearer all the best in getting Newcastle back on track! Hopefully this will mean 2 north east teams in the prem and hopefully it won't be newcastle and boro!
Look I'm really not sure about this. Shearer might have been a God for us as a player. But he's been asked many times since then to get involved and help the club out and he just didn't have the bottle. So now he's got this no lose opportunity to step in and act the hero.
There's very little evidence to show that he's got what it takes to be a manager and I don't see why so many people think he does.
That said I'll be there agaist Chelsea singing my heart out but lets just wait and see!
Oh yes and the reason that Luke is so happy is that his missus is one of us. She been a bit miserable around the house lately Luke? ;)
A very good point Johny! She was certainly smiling, although I'd like to think that would have more to do with my beahviour than Alan Shearer!
